Chemotherapy may also be used as a radiosensitizing agent for diseases such as cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancer. Although progress has been made in treatment of gynecologic malignancies, outcomes remain generally poor, and development of further targeted therapies or treatments is needed. This review covers the basic principles of chemotherapy as well as classes and regimens of drugs commonly used in the treatment of gynecologic malignancy.
