Abstract

The sense organs on the surface of the antennal flagellum of female Ctenocephalides canis (Curtis) were examined to separate chemoreceptors from other types. There are several small mechanoreceptors on the ventro-lateral surface and 4 larger chemoreceptors on the dorsal edge of subsegments 5 to 8. Fifteen coeloconic sense organs open into the spaces between subsegments 2 to 10. Seven of these, located on the proximal edges of subsegments 4 to 10, each contain a single chemoreceptor peg while 8 of them, located on the distal edges of subsegments 2 to 9, each contain 4 or 5 chemoreceptors of 3 different kinds.
