Abstract

1. 1. Axons from chemoreceptors enter the central nervous system through the ipsilateral first and third segmental nerves of their own segment, but not through the second. 2. 2. The additional response obtained in intact and peripherally sectioned nerves to stimulation of adjacent segments is explained in terms of efferent sensory impulses. 3. 3. The input of chemical and tactile receptor axons to the central, unpolarized sensory network is discussed.
