Abstract

Prealbumin concentration was measured in 80 patients with the Array reagent (Beckman Coulter, Fullerton, Calif) on a Synchron CX7 system (Beckman Coulter), and the results were correlated with those obtained with rate nephelometry on an Array 360 (Beckman Coulter). The assay enables quantitative determination of prealbumin concentration in human serum by automated immunoprecipitin analysis using five calibrator levels. The within-run and between-run precision for low, mid, and high samples was 4.3%, 3.4%, and 3.2%, and 7.8%, 3.6%, and 6.7%, respectively. Linearity was confirmed by dilution to 31.3 mg/dL. Statistical analysis reports a correlation coefficient of 0.982, slope of 0.90, intercept of 0.64, and standard error of the estimate of 1.3. The Array prealbumin reagent and Synchron CX7 system provides rapid, reliable results over a clinically relevant range, allows optimal utilization of laboratory personnel and resources, and reduces cost by using existing instrumentation.
