Abstract

The male mandibular gland secretion of the formicine ant, Camponotus thoracicus fellah contains 2,4-dimethylhexan-5-olide, methyl 6-methylsalicylate, methyl anthranilate, n-octanoic and n-nonanoic acids. The probable function of this exudate is discussed.
