Abstract

Abstract Continuous development of light sources is required from energy-saving considerations (enhancing luminous efficacy) and an environmental protection point of view (lamps that are easy to recycle or made of environmentally friendly materials). This paper summarizes some of the recent results of materials science research with special attention to chemical aspects. The results will be cited from the field of discharge chemistry, electrodes, ceramics, and other materials.
