Abstract
AbstractAcetylenic ethers V react with aldehydes in aqueous medium at room temperature to yield the hydroxy esters VII and IX, often together with a small amount of the unsaturated ester VIII. The acetylenic ethers do not react in such a way with ketones and aromatic aldehydes but a similar reaction occurs with ethyl mesoxalate.
