Abstract

Chemisorption of divalent cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc chlorides on 3-( N-propyl) acetylhydrazine anchored onto silica gel has been investigated. This surface presented 0.357 mmol of bonded functional groups per gram of support, which corresponds to 0.48 molecules of ligands suspended per nm 2. The adsorption isotherms are very similar in shape for all metal ions and conform to a modified Langmuir equation. The degree of chemisorption in acetone is higher than that in ethanol. For both solvents, the same sequence, Cu>Co >Zn, was observed. Calorimetric titration of a suspension of the support in acetone with metallic ions showed an exothermic interaction with copper (II), while for cobalt (II) and zinc (II) an endothermic effect was observed.
