Abstract

Abstract The IR and Raman spectra of XCH 2 SiH(CH 3 ) 2 (X = CH 3 , Cl, Br and I) and their Si-deuterated species are given for the liquid and solid states. Assignments of the fundamental vibrations and the normal coordinate treatment are made for two possible rotational isomers with C s and C 1 symmetries. For all the halogeno compounds the C s form is more stable than the C 1 form in the liquid state. On the other hand, in the solid state, the ethyl and chloro compounds always give the spectra of the C 1 form, while the bromo and iodo compounds give the two different spectra of the C s and C 1 forms.
