Abstract

Previous phytochemical study of Ligularia duciformis, a special weed in China, which has long been used traditionally in folk medicine for reducing inflammation and for curing apoplexy 1, dealt with the isolation of coniferyl and sinapyl alcohol derivatives. Further investigation of the chemical constituents of this plant afforded two new si napyl alcohol derivatives named as 4-0-[6,7-dihydro-5,6£-dehydro7(9)-dehydrogeranyl]-sinapyl alcohol 1 and 4-0-[5oxogeranyl]-sinapyl alcohol 2. The isolation and structure elucidation of the compounds are discussed here.
