AbstractCoupling of the 2‐aminopyrimidines (I) with the aroyl chlorides (II) in the presence of ammonium thiocyanate (III) produces the aroylthioureas (IV) which undergo cyclization upon heating in phosphorus pentachloride and phosphorus oxychloride, forming the thiadiazolopyrimidines (V).
