Abstract

The compound P(CH2Cl)Cl4, which is molecular in the liquid phase, has been shown by solid-state 31P MAS NMR spectroscopy to have the structure [P(CH2Cl)Cl3]+[P(CH2Cl)Cl5]–; this is the first example of an organochlorophosphorane having a structure like that of solid [PCl4]+[PCl6]–.
