AbstractReaction of the α‐chloro‐o‐hydroxyacetophenones (I) with acetophenone (II) in the presence of perchloric acid in acetic acid gives the chloromethylflavylium salts (III), together with the 4‐methylflavylium salts (IV) as by‐products.
