Abstract

Spectroscopic results indicate that at room temperature and atmospheric pressure liquid nitromethane has molecules in the monomeric state and is not associated in pairs as reported in some previous studies. This conclusion is based on the invariance of the infrared and Raman frequencies between gas- and liquid-phase spectra. The literature dealing with pair association of nitromethane is critically reviewed in this paper
