AbstractSamarium diiodide, generated in situ from metallic Sm and 1,2‐diiodoethane, is employed as a reagent for the reductive cleavage of vinylic epoxides such as (I), (III), and (V), yielding allylic alcohols such as (II), (IV), and (VI).
