Abstract Indirect electrochemical reduction, by means of aromatic anion radical mediators, of perfluoroalkyl halides in the presence of imidazolate or of substituted imidazolate anions yields the corresponding perfluoroalkylated imidazoles along an S RN 1 mechanism.
