Abstract
Lanthanides are briefly presented in an introductory section. The chemistry induced by divalent lanthanides, esssentially Sm(1 I) derivatives, is then discussed. Barbier type reaction and reduction of acid chlorides are mainly considered. Acid chlorides react with SmI2 in various ways, giving rise to interesting organic chemistry.
