Abstract

Nonaromatic benzenoid hydrocarbons are benzenoid hydrocarbons with large number of fixed double bonds. The li-electron structure of these molecules is examined and the effects of particular rings on the total n-electron energy calculated. The main conclusion of this work is that in nonaromatic benzenoids several non-standard modes of cyclic conjugation occur, in addition to the conjugation described by Kekul6 or Clar struc- tures.
