Abstract

AbstractAs shown by neutron diffraction studies at 350 °C, the cubic HT polymorph of Li2CrCl4, prepared by melting together the anhydrous binary chlorides, crystallizes in the space group Fd3m with Z = 8. Its inverse spinel structure shows a large Frenkel disorder of the tetrahedrally coordinated lithium ions (incomplete occupation of tetrahedral 8a sites (24%) and very strong population of the interstitial octahedral 16c sites (38%)).
