Abstract

Abstract The ν ClH … band in the solution IR spectra of alkyl sulfide and alkyl selenide complexes with HCl appears as a broad band which exhibits concentration-dependent subbands. Comparison with matrix isolation spectra allows one to assign these features to complexes with 1:1 and 1:2 stoichiometry. Perturbation of the bonded acid molecules is stronger in low-temperature inert matrices, but this strengthening seems to be dependent on the type of H bond.
