Abstract

A new lithium-induced alkyne cyclization reaction of cyclotriynes leads to the formation of a fulvalene dianion derivative in high yield, as confirmed by X-ray crystallography. This unprecedented reaction may be useful for the synthesis of a variety of fulvalene dianons, and these may be used in the synthesis of extended metallocene complexes
