Abstract
AbstractCoupling of α‐picoline (I) with the bromoacetophenones (II) or the corresponding acetophenones (V) in the presence of iodine leads to the formation of the picolinium bromides (III) or iodides (VI) which are cyclized upon heating in aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution to give the indolizines (IV).
