AbstractMonodemethylation of various polymethoxybenzenes, such as (I), (IV), and (VII), proceeds predominantly at the methoxyl group in ortho position to the hydroxyalkyl substituents, yielding the corresponding demethylated compounds (IIa), (Va), and (VIII) as the main products.
