Abstract

AbstractBy a range of photolytic reactions it is evidenced that pentacarbonylchromium‐carbene complexes on irradiation (at wavelengths which include the metal‐to‐ligand CT absorption (350‐450 nm) of the specific carbene complex) rearrange to intermediate tetracarbonylchromium‐ketene complexes (without forming free ketenes) which may be trapped by nucleophiles with high stereoselectivity what has several important synthetic implications.
