Abstract

AbstractWhile conventional reduction (Zn/AcOH) of the title compound (Ia) affords (Id) in only 13% yield, the substrate can be selectively converted to either (Ib) or (Ic) by electrochemical reduction at a mercury cathode using the supporting electrolytes and solvents given in the scheme.
