AbstractThe reaction of the enolate (I), prepared from the corresponding ester, with the aniline derivative (II) yields mainly the cis β‐lactam (IIIa) in hexane/THF solvent at ‐78 → 0 °C. When the reaction is carried out in THF under the same conditions only the trans isomer (IIIb) is obtained.
