Abstract

Abstract 2-Cyano-3,3-bis(methylthio)acrylonitrile was treated with 6-amino-6-deoxy-1,2:3,4-di- O -isopropylidene-α- d -galactopyranose, 6-amino-6-deoxy- d -galactose diethyl dithioacetal, and 6-amino-6-deoxy-2,3:4,5-di- O -isopropylidene- d -galactose diethyl dithioacetal to give the corresponding 6-deoxy-6-(2,2-dicyano-1-methylthiovinylamino)- d -galactose derivatives. 6-Deoxy-6-(2,2-dicyano-1-methylthiovinylamino)- d -galactose diethyl dithioacetal yielded 6-amino-6-deoxy-5- O ,6- N -(2,2-dicyanovinylidene)- d -galactose diethyl dithioacetal. On heating with bases, 6-deoxy-6-(2,2-dicyano-1-methylthioacrylamido)- d -galactose afforded a mixture of two comounds.
