Abstract

AbstractThe corrosion behavior of SUS 310S austenitic stainless steel, Alloy 600, Monel 400, and Ni 200 in 30‐60% NaOH is studied at temp. up to 166 °C. In solutions containing dissolved oxygen or under oxidizing conditions, all alloys studied are corroded seriously due to oxygen diffusion through the porous oxide layer consisting of β‐Ni(OH)2, whereas in hydrogen‐saturated solutions the samples are corrosion resistant.
