Abstract

AbstractThe anodic oxidation of UO2 is studied in aqueous Na2HPO4 solutions over the pH range 4‐11. The early stages of oxidation resulting in the formation of an UO2.33 film are unaffected by the presence of phosphate, but phosphate concentrations of ≧ 0.1 M PO43‐ prevent the formation of higher oxide films which form in phosphate‐free solutions at higher oxidation potentials.
