Abstract

The anisotropic magnetic parameters of the diphenyliminoxy radical, photoproduced from the benzophenone oxime embedded in a benzophenone crystal, have been measured by ESR spectroscopy. The principal values of the 14N hyperfine interaction are Txx = 25.4, Tyy = 26.2, and Tzz = 42.5 G. The hyperfine principal axes are x perpendicular to a plane containing the CNO group, y in the plane and perpendicular to the bisector of the CNO bond angle, and z the bisector of the CNO bond angle. The g‐tensor components are gxx = 2.0054, gyy = 2.0104, and gzz = 2.0031. The principal axes of the g tensor do not coincide with the hyperfine axes except for the x axis. The isotropic values, obtained from the iminoxy in a supercooled benzophenone liquid, are aN = 31.5 G, g = 2.0063, and aH = 1.5 G (ortho protons). The p:s ratio for the unpaired electron at the N atom is calculated to be 5.7. The spin density on 14N is 0.38. The bond angle of the CNO bond is 136°. The unpaired electron is in a pseudo ?u orbital with increasing...
