Abstract
The chemiluminescence reaction of ClO − with H 2O 2 in alkaline solution was applied to the determination of gaseous chlorine species such as Cl 2 and HCl in ambient air. The detection limit for Cl 2 was 1 ppm (v/v) and the relative standard deviation of five measurements of 2.5 ppm Cl 2 was 3.8%. Hydrocarbons, ozone, nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide did not interfere in the determination of Cl 2 and HCl. The results obtained were in good agreement with those obtained by ion chromatography.
