Abstract
A highly sensitive, rapid and selective method is described for the determination of chloride in waters, based on oxidation by potassium permanganate in sulphuric acid medium, gas extraction of the chlorine formed and its chemiluminescence detection by luminol. The detection limit is 4 μg/l, the time required for an analysis 4 min with peak height measurement and 8 min with peak area measurement. The method has been applied to the analysis of natural waters.
