Abstract

A chemiluminescence (CL) detection method for the determination of sulfite is described. The light produced in the reaction of Ru(bipy)32+(bipy=2,2′-bipyridyl)-SO32--K2S2O8 is detected. The concentration of sulfite is proportional to the CL intensity in the range 1.5×10-7 - 1.O×10-4 mol/l. The limit of detection is 4.1×10-8 mol/l and the relative standard deviation is 4.3% for 2×10-5 mol/l sulfite solution in 9 repeated measurements. This method has been successfully applied to the determination of sulfite in sugar and sulfur dioxide in air by using triethanolamine (TEA) as the absorbent material.
