Abstract

The influence of the filter media on the reactivity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) adsorbed on airborne particles, when exposed to nitrogen dioxide during sampling, has been studied. This paper describes an experiment with Teflon-coated glass fiber filters (Pallflex). The results indicate that the degradation of PAH and the formation of mononitro derivatives and mutagenic compounds due to NO 2 exposure is not affected by the filter media, since no significant difference compared with glass fiber filter sampling was obtained.
