Abstract
Chemical transfer and transport modelling of atmospheric constituents in EUROTRAC has been applied to numerous processes and phenomena covering a large range of scales from local to global. The EUROTRAC subprojects GLOMAC (Global Modelling of Atmospheric Chemistry) and EUMAC (European Modelling of Atmospheric Constituent) were exclusively devoted to the task of global and mesoscale model development and model application to scientific as well as environmental policy problems. Other subprojects needing support from chemical transport modelling co-operated with the modelling groups particularly in EUMAC or initiated their own modelling activities as, for instance, TOR and TRACT. Yet despite the spread of modelling activities, co-ordination between the subprojects managed to avoid the duplication of numerical work in general and generated efficient collaboration. Considerable synergism was achieved in this way in the area of air quality modelling within EUROTRAC.
