Abstract
1. 1. Purified glycoproteins from human, bovine and equine erythrocyte membranes show marked differences in total carbohydrate content and individual monosaccharides. 2. 2. The variations are primarily due to differences in galactose, N-acetylgalactosamine and sialic acid which suggest that the different glycoproteins must have different types or numbers of oligosaccharide units, or both. 3. 3. Variations in amino acid composition were also considerably greater for the glycoproteins than for the other erythrocyte membrane proteins.
