Abstract
Chemical sensor production in Japan has grown to be fairly massive, although it is still a minor part of the total sensor production. Chemical sensor research organizations which have supported such development are briefly introduced. Then the achievements and trends of recent gas sensor research and development in Japan are described, together with future prospects for chemical sensors.
