Abstract

Dyeing is an important and costly procedure in the textile industry, so the experts have always attempted to find new dyes as well as modern methods in this area. In this research, we studied a novel technique in the production of dyed yarns. In this regard, two different copolymers of poly(acrylonitrile) were produced through chemical grafting of disperse dyes to the main chains of polymer. The grafting process and homogeneous distribution of dye on the samples were then accessed using spectroscopic methods of Fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (FT-NMR), UV- Visible, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Tensile strength of the samples was also evaluated according to ASTM D2256. Considering the remarkable results achieved, which is based on the chemical grafting of dye to the fiber, this technique will open a new horizon in the textile industries. Our laboratory research showed that the introduction of the chemical grafting of dyes onto the textile fibers eliminates the dye environmental pollutions and improves the quality of textiles.
