KNOWLEDGE of what takes place within the patient during a paroxysm of asthma or during an attack of urticaria is not at all clear. Such simple matters as the balances of water, salt or acids and bases have been observed in asthma and in other so-called "allergic diseases," but few of the studies are sufficiently controlled to establish any definite conclusions. The fact is that the available data are often conflicting and therefore confusing.
