Abstract

Equilibrium constants for the reaction 2EtOH = Et 2 O + H 2 O have been calculated from measurements of the composition of mixtures formed when the mixed vapour was passed over a catalyst held at a fixed temperature in the range 463 to 492K. The enthalpy of the gas-state reaction at 298.15K was calculated, from the equilibrium constants, to be (24.0±0.1) kJ mol −1 , and expressions were derived for the calculation of the equilibrium constant as a function of temperature in the range 300 to 700K.
