Abstract

Phytochemical investigation on the leaves of Viburnum odoratissimum Ker.-Gawl. led to the isolation of fourteen compounds, including eight triterpenes (1-8), one steroidal saponin(9), one butanolide (10), two monoterpenes (11, 12) and two sesquiterpenoids (13, 14). The existence of compounds 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12 in Viburnum genus has been reported for the first time. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis as well as comparison with previously reported data. In addition, the chemotaxonomic significance of isolated compounds from V. odoratissimum was also discussed in this thesis.
