Abstract

A phytochemical study on Pteris terminalis Wallich ex J. Agardh yielded eighteen compounds including nine pterosin sesquiterpenoids (1–9) and five ent-kaurane diterpenoids (10–14) and four flavonoid glycosides (15–18). Structural elucidation of these compounds was carried out on the basis of MS, NMR, CD and ORD data. All compounds were first reported from P. terminalis, and the compounds histiopterosin A (6), rhedynosin E (9), and quercetin-3-O-β-D-neohesperidoside (16) were first discovered from the genus Pteris as well as the family Pteridaceae. In addition, the chemotaxonomic significance of these isolates was discussed.
