Abstract

The objective of the present study is focused on the evaluation of the chemical composition of the essential oil from Ferula assa-foetida seeds from two habitats of Iran (Yazd and Kohsorkhe-kasmar). The hydrodistilled essential oils of the seeds were analyzed by GC and GC-MS system. The results of essential oils analysis from two geographical provinces indicated the presence of 45 compounds. A total 41 Compounds constituting of 93.5 % seeds oil characterized in Yazd sample and 42 Compounds constituting of 97.3 % seeds oil identified in Kohesorkh kahmar sample. A comparative study of chemical compositions of both oils showed similar regarding the qualitative and quantitative properties completely, while appeared a few qualitative and quantitative differences. According to our result Sulphurous compounds and oxygenated sesquiterpenes were the main group of compounds.
