Abstract

The essential oil of the Crassocephalum crepidiodes was obtained from fresh plant material (flowers and aerial parts separately) to hydro-distillation using Clevenger apparatus and was analyzed by GC/MS and GC/FID. The oil yields were found for flower 0.38 % and for aerial part (stems and leaves) 0.30 %. A total of 32 and 31 compounds were identified from flowers and aerial part accounting for 96.1% and 83.7% respectively. Myrcene is reported as major compound 54.25% in essential oil of flowers 57.1% in essential oil of aerial part. β- phellandrene was identified as second major constituent 25.9 % in essential oil of flowers while 15.3% in the essential oil of aerial part. In addition to the marker constituent differences of C. crepidioides essential oil regarding myrcene, the proportion of this compound has been observed to be significantly higher than the literature values.
