Abstract
As the new Editor in Chief Chemical Biology and Drug Design (CB&DD), I would first like to thank the outgoing Editor in Chief David Selwood for the expertise and commitment he has brought to the journal over the last 11 years, it is an honor to succeed him in this role. I come to the role from a background of medicinal and biological chemistry. From studying modified nucleic acids, to developing natriuretic peptide receptor agonists, to the focus of my research over the last 14 years—developing new scaffolds and identifying new targets and pathways to overcome antibiotic resistance, all of which utilize the tools of medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. These tools, and others listed above, have a vital role to play in advancing our understanding of biological systems, and in developing solutions to complex biological problems. CB&DD stands as a prime platform for the publication of the breadth of multidisciplinary research that encompasses these fields. It is my hope that CB&DD continues to grow and succeed, by continuing to attract and publish high quality, high interest manuscripts with rigorous peer review and fast turnaround. Special thematic issues will continue to be an important part of the CB&DD portfolio, as will the introduction of new manuscript types such as our Tools and Protocols manuscript type. The success of the journal is dependent on many factors, perhaps most significantly the expertise and dedication of the Associate Editors and Editorial Board, and the CB&DD team whom I look forward to working closely with, comprises a vast spectrum of knowledge and expertise. Finally, I am excited to work with new and returning CB&DD authors and reviewers to continue the success of CB&DD.
