Abstract
The n carbonyl groups in a metal cluster carbonyl M m (CO) n form a polyhedron which represents the most favorable way of packing these carbonyl groups on the surface of a sphere. Such polyhedra for 12 ≦ n ≦ 16 include the four Frank-Kasper polyhedra, which have only degree 5 and 6 vertices with no adjacent pairs of degree 6 vertices.
