Abstract

The basic Brunaeur, Emmett and Teller (BET) approach to multimolecular gas adsorption is extended to apply to both chemical and physical gas adsorption in finite layers on porous materials. Closed form solutions are presented to the resultant mathematical models, and the case of first-layer chemisorption followed by finite multimolecular physical adsorption is applied to published and authors' data for the adsorption of water on silica gel to predict a wide range of adsorption isotherms.
