Abstract

Estimating the amplitude of the average annual flood of small, rarely instrumented watercourses is becoming more and more interesting, especially in a systemic environmental management of a drainage basin. Thirty-seven natural rivers draining less than 360 km2 in the province of Quebec were scaled and the variability of series of annual daily maximums are examined. Based on the results obtained, an empirical regression relationship correlating the average annual flood with the drainage basin is proposed.
