Abstract

Abstract This article concerns the contents of the little-known picture gallery of the Sternbergs, one of the oldest noble families in Bohemia. The remnants of the originally extensive artistic collection are now on display at the Častolovice chateau in the Czech Republic. The aim here is to present the history of the collection with the aid of recently discovered archival documents and the results of a recently completed survey of selected masterpieces based on stylistic analysis and non-invasive physical examination.
