Abstract

The crash proofing of APL programs is relatively simple in an APL system having a file sub-system. The method is the classical Check Point and Restart to which has been added Completion Codes. It can be used for single user programs or multiple user interactive programs with critical sections. It assures recovery for such external generated failures as CPU, terminal, telephone line drop, or network crashes. The method can be used on already written programs by simple insertion in the existent code. It is particularly useful in application programs where the users are laymen.
